for ref britney having an iud she has no option to remove of her own volition is NOT unusual. the sudden med change to a hardcore drug with long lasting ramifications is not unusual. the lack of choice in providers is not unusual. the things she is talking abt while disgusting and vile are not uncommon nor even some of the worst shit ive encountered in my work. i do not say that to minimize her abuse in any way whatsoever but to underscore that this is widespread and despicable. her story is more unique due to her fame and finances. if this story upsets u i promise the shit happening to regular folks, most of whom are brown and black and poor, will absolutely make u beyond furious. this is why i constantly rant abt the intersection of the judicial system/prison industrial complex and psychiatry. this is the hill i will absolutely die on

I personally know:

1. A disabled adult who was put under the guardianship of the father who r*ped them as a child despite the fact their father was being investigated for abusing them as a child and they are completely competent. They had to go into the shelter system, flee across the country and undergo years of legal battles to get out from under that.

2. A disabled woman who lost custody of her oldest child to her ex despite the fact she is married with children (that nice nuclear family the courts supposedly love), she and her current husband have raised that child together alongside their other children since it was a toddler, and her ex is single and has pretty much no experience with children. Her ex is now abusing their child. She tried to appeal the custody and the judge agreed that there was sufficient evidence the child was being abused but refused to rehear the case.

These are just people I, one single person, happen to know. This shit happens to disabled people all the time.

#FreeBritney is a disability rights issue. All disabled people deserve dignity and the right to self determination.

I mean it is almost a monthly thing for me to see on social media, some LGBTQ disabled person trying to fight conservatorship because their parents are using it as an excuse to force them into conversion therapy. The laws banning conversion therapy only apply to minors, they do not protect conserved adults.
